FIELD EXCURSION

22nd - 24th March

The brief description of the planned 2.5 days field excursion:

The island of Taiwan is located at the junction between the Eurasian and Philippine Sea Plate, active tectonic activities and frequent typhoon visits make Taiwan unique in having very high rates of uplift, precipitation, denudation and sedimentation. The 2.5 days field excursion will go to eastern and northern Taiwan, examining the young tectonic landforms and experiencing the dynamic geological features of the island. We'll begin our journey at world-famous Taroko National Park with its spectacular mountains, marble canyons and aboriginal culture. The famous Chingshui Cliff rises vertically from the Pacific Ocean, with an average height of over 800 m and spectacular views. We are also going to experience both the cold (with CO2) and hot spring in northeastern Taiwan, and enjoy the view at Yehliu Geopark (famous for its sea-eroded landscapes) and the volcanic landforms in Yangmingshan National Park.
